Dear friends,

This newsletter has some very exciting news that I can’t wait to share with you, plus pictures and information on new projects that I have designed for our upcoming seminars. Please take a moment, grab a coffee and share some time with me.

MAUREEN'S HOME STUDIO SEMINARS

I realize that in these temporary but tough economic times, some of you would still love to come paint with us, but can't afford all three days.

We can't have a year go by without your coming to Belwood (especially when you read further on in the newsletter.)

So I am extending an invitation for you to register for just one of the projects, unless otherwise noted. In the seminar description below, I am indicating on which day the project will be taught and the costs for just one or two days. I look forward to you being able to come and paint with us.

THE VERY NEWEST SEMINAR DESIGNS

JUNE 26 - 28
FOLK ART STYLE

This will be a "folk art brushstroke weekend" as we paint in this traditional style. Although with a twist as I did slip in a Jacobean acanthus in the large Blue Folk Art project!

June 26 -(One day)

Traditional Folk Art Place Mat This symmetrical design is on a lovely placemat from Coyote Woodworks, although it will fit on many surfaces.

It measures 16.5" wide by 11.5" high. I anticipate that this design will be the first of a series.

Blue Folk Art

June 27 - 28 -(Two Days)
Blue Folk Art

This is a round design that I have in a square frame, so it will be perfect on any round surface.

The diameter is 18". It would make a lovely table!

Blue and turquoise are the trendy new colours in decorating today, and I've always felt that blue is a welcome addition to any colour scheme.

You will learn three different flowers, acanthus and a variety of leaves in this painting.

OCTOBER 16 - 18 DESIGN SOLUTIONS

This is a unique design seminar, unlike any I have ever taught.

In this seminar you will learn how to take components from one design and turn them into many additional patterns. You will learn how to create numerous companion projects to a large painting plus accenting borders, all over patterns and trim.

This will give you extra mileage from all those pattern packets in your collection.

The inspiration project for this seminar is the Jacobean Delight project from the September 19 - 20 seminar.

All of the paintings came from this one design - and there could be hundreds more!

So anyone attending the Jacobean Delight project on September 19-20 will especially enjoy this seminar.

What a beautiful collection you will have. We will paint the four small paintings together in class. All three days must be attended in this seminar.

Bring your imagination!

UPCOMING SEMINARS

MAY 29 - 31 FLORAL BOTANICALS

The series of botanical paintings that I started three years ago has been such a success with my students and a joy to create. Have you noticed how this timeless painting style is very current with today's decor? Framed, they will make a beautiful addition to your home.

Sat May 30 Honeysuckle

This delicate flower grows on a vine that loves to climb up stone walls and fences. I can still remember the first time I saw them in Scotland. It was actually their sweet aroma that I noticed first and once I found the source of that smell I fell in love with this flower.

Friday May 29 - Parrot Flower

My friend and student Jana Reynolds introduced me to a very rare flower, the Parrot Flower from Thailand. As soon as I saw this amazing flower I had to paint it. Look carefully and you will see how these flowers look like small birds.

May 31 - Anemone

This flower comes in many colours and is often seen in the old world Dutch Floral paintings from centuries ago. I love their unusual leaves and the way their shape contrasts with the round and tissue thin petals of the
the anemone blossom.

ALL NEW BRUSH STROKE CLINIC 2009

August 21-23 / October 23-25

This year's designs are on the window valances designed for me by Coyote Woodworks.

Of course these patterns will also fit on any surface of your choosing.

This is a perfect seminar for anyone wishing an introduction to my style of painting. I promise, you will be very surprised at how easy it really is folks!

Although you will achieve brushstroke skills more readily by attending all three days, you will still learn a good deal in one or two days.

Here is how the seminar breaks down into individual days

On the first day (one day) we will complete the Tropical Flower Vine (intro to round brush project).

This is the third project shown below.

In the second day (two day) we will complete the Tropical leaves project (round brush) shown on the right. On the same day we will do the leaves on the Roses and Hyacinths (Intro to flat brush project) which is second from the left.

On the third day we will complete the roses and then we will do the Orchids (round brush) shown on the left.

September 18 - Acanthus Leafy Scrolls

This is one of the hottest decorating motifs today! Patterns are offered for a table runner and four placemats. However, in class there is only time for either the runner or the placemats. Each placemat is in a different colour scheme. Surfaces are available from Coyote Woodworks.

September 19 and 20 - Jacobean Delight
(two days)

This style of painting is from the 1700's and is quite elaborate with intertwining flowers, leaves and vines. It is always one of my favourite styles to design and as usual I have introduced my palette to this style.

Mirror image patterns are provided but most students will only be able to do one in class.

The surface is from Coyote Woodworks - just go to the section called Maureen’s seminar pieces.

Cost
Three days $350.00 CDN
Two days $235.00 CDN
One day $120.00 CDN

These two place mats from Coyote Woodworks are mates to the two classes that I will be teaching at the SDP convention this year in Peoria Illinois.

Packets for the SDP projects will be available after convention, so together with the yellow roses and pansy ring from these two classes, you will have a beautiful table setting. Of course, the patterns will also fit a wide variety of surfaces. I can just envision the companion pieces now!

MAUREEN'S 2010 HOME STUDIO SEMINARS
RELOCATING IN 2010

This season will be the last year for seminars at my Belwood studio, so if you have always wanted to make the trip - now is the time to do it!

The reason for the move is a joyous one - I am engaged to be married later this year. My fiancé David and I will reside in Brampton Ontario which is much closer to Toronto.

David shares my love of art and understands how important it is in my life - so no fear folks, I will be teaching for a very long time! I know you all share in my happiness and I can hardly wait for you to meet David.

Warm hugs, Maureen
