MAUREEN’S SECOND ANNUAL CANADIAN SEMINARS
JUNE 2 - 5, 2011 & OCTOBER 20 - 23, 2011
We had such great success in 2010 with the First Annual Canadian Seminar. It was a full house with some folks travelling as far as Calgary Alberta and even Australia.
It was my first time hosting a seminar in a hotel, yet the students assured me that it felt like they were back in my former home studio. Certainly proves that our good memories of the Belwood studio are really all about the wonderful people.
My good friend Judy McDonald helped me tremendously in organizing and running the event last year. I’m so happy that she will be at my side again this year.
We learned a great deal from the first seminar and I’ve implemented many of the requests. The students also asked for an extra day and so our two 2011 seminars will be four exceptional days. |
Reservations are required ASAP to confirm your room. Please visit their website to see pictures of the hotel, bedrooms, indoor pool and classroom.
You will receive a corporate rate for your room, just be sure to mention that you are with the Maureen McNaughton Seminar, or with Judy’s Busy Brushes.
I’m sure many of you will be sharing a room, which will be very economical indeed.

JUNE 2 - 5, 2011
(4 days)
I’ve had such an overwhelming response for my Russian designs which have been used to decorate fabric in the quilting market, under the name Maureen Calvert Kiev Collection 1 and 2.
Many painters are quilters too, so these two markets seem to go hand in hand. Wouldn’t it be amazing to paint companion pieces to go with a handmade quilt? A good friend of mine quilted a gorgeous long coat with the Kiev fabric and now she can paint a purse to go with it!!!! I hope you will enjoy the projects I’ve designed for you. |

Russian Troikas
The Russian meaning of Troika is “a sleigh drawn by three horses abreast.” You will often see Troikas in Russian fairy tale painting as well as traditional paintings depicting Russian scenes.
In class we will do the Red Sleigh Troika with driver. However, at the seminar I will also give you the notes, patterns and colour for the Purple Sleigh Troika.
Once you’ve done the red sleigh with me in class you will feel very comfortable with the technique and will have no trouble doing the purple sleigh on your own at home. After all - you need a matching pair, right?

Russian Nesting Dolls
Janet at Coyote Woodworks sent me a charming square frame with an insert panel that just cried out for these three beauties. I love this surface because you can interchange the insets. You probably know that I have other nesting dolls too.
In time they will also be available for teaching and packets and I’ll be sure they adapt to this surface.

Sunflowers Strokework
Sunflowers on a red background - very different for me! But I love it. Now I’m looking at other bright background colours. This happy painting will be a welcome addition to any decor.

OCTOBER 20 - 23, 2011
(4 days)
This seminar is still in the planning stages, so you know it will be new and exciting.
I’m thinking one of the projects will be tropical fish along the same lines as my very popular butterfly collection. And then let’s see what other projects develop over the next few months.
Don’t hesitate to register now for this October seminar. Remember that the 2010 seminar filled before any projects were even shown, so don’t miss out on this opportunity for 2011.
|
| I am truly looking forward to our two very special seminars, and to painting with you all again. |
|
Hugs and warm wishes, Maureen
