Hi friends,
I have painted with many of you in person, or through my packets and books. As you know, I add Extender to many of the DecoArt Acrylics to make them more "brush stroke friendly." I have been promising a master list  of all the DecoArt colours, so you would know which ones require it and which ones do not.
I am pleased to provide it to you now.

A LITTLE DISCLAIMER FIRST
The following list is just a suggestion of what I found has worked for me and my students. It was made assuming that your colour is new. If your colour is extra thick, it may require more Extender than what I've stated. Just remember that in strokework, all colours on the same brush must be of the same consistency in order to blend properly within your brush stroke.

WHY ADD EXTENDER?
It has been my experience that some of the DecoArt acrylics are a little too thick and gooey for strokework. The brush doesn't want to snap back to a point or chisel when doing strokework. After a good deal of experimenting with all the medias on the market, I found that DecoArt became less viscous with just a few drops of the following Extender. The colours blended together more easily and in all, they became more "stroke-able."
I've found that adding only water, as some others suggest, does not reduce the viscosity. The addition of Extender appears to work because of an apparent chemical reaction. The colour just becomes looser, not watery.

In all my classes and packets, I put a star beside the colours that do not take this Extender.
However, many of you asked how I decided which colours would require it. At first it was just a matter of experimenting on my part. But then a pattern gradually emerged:

    * Transparent colours did not require Extender.
Adding Extender to these colours make them too transparent. If you were to add Extender, the "open time" is increased, and this allows you to stretch or "extend" the pigment so far that insufficient colour remains.

*Opaque, dull colours require extra Extender.
I noticed that  those colours that appear to have Titanium White are extra thick as they come from the bottle. These colours may require 3-5 drops to a 1" puddle of acrylic.

*Remaining colours required 1-2 drops per 1" puddle.

MAUREEN'S EXTENDER:       MIX WATER + DECOART EASY FLOAT (3:1)

FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF ALL THE DECOART ACRYLICS in ALPHABETICAL ORDER.
